As 2024 ends, we’re reflecting on a year of big milestones, from announcing FBC: Firebreak to celebrating Alan Wake 2 and Control. Here’s a look back at what made this year special.

Dear Remedy community,

2024 will soon be behind us, and so it's time for our traditional recap blog of all the big moments we celebrated with our community in the year that's almost come to an end.

The biggest, and by far the most exciting news for a lot of us at Remedy Entertainment this year is the fact that we announced a new game, which is simultaneously our first multiplayer and first self-published game. FBC: Firebreak was announced at the Xbox Partner Preview in October!

Our announcement trailer for FBC: Firebreak showed you what our new standalone game is all about. The game lets you jump into the Oldest House with up to two of your friends, or matchmade strangers, and face otherworldly monsters and paranatural hot zones where you will defuse strange and dangerous crises at their source. While we gave you an overview of the game with the trailer, we also wanted to give our development team a chance to tell you, the community, directly in more detail what FBC: Firebreak is about and what inspired them. Check out our Community First Look video if you haven’t already to hear the FBC: Firebreak development team talk more about the game. We can’t wait to share more about FBC: Firebreak with you in 2025, and while you’re waiting, remember to wishlist FBC: Firebreak on Steam!

Even though Alan Wake 2 was released a year ago, this year was very much still marked by the game for us, as we continued to support the game through its post-launch period. Both when it came to updates and bug fixes, and also content releases – the two story expansions for Alan Wake 2 came out this year. You stepped into Night Springs when it launched in June, and braved the terrifying Lake House later in the year, in October.

Alan Wake, Saga Anderson, and Rose Marigold also entered the Fog when we collaborated with Behavior Interactive to include Alan Wake in Dead By Daylight – our second biggest collaboration with another video game, after Fortnite. (Yes, we've seen you make Alan dance Fortnite dances throughout the year, and we love it.)

We released the Photo Mode for Alan Wake 2 as a free update for all players in June as well, and to celebrate we asked the community to submit their very best virtual photographs, collecting all the winners (judged by our art team) in a special blog post.

Even though we celebrated a year of Alan Wake 2 on the game's October anniversary, we put together a tribute video about the game's development, and for our community, for Valentine's Day 2024. Have you seen our community love letter video? You can watch it on our YouTube channel!

We gave back to the game developer community as well. A good number of our developers had Alan Wake 2 talks at this year's Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, and we released all those presentations to the public recently. You can explore them in this blog post, which includes talks from fields such as environment art, VFX, character art, narrative design, as well as several talks on the work we are doing with our Northlight Engine.

This year Control turned five years old, and as we celebrated the anniversary with the community, it was lovely to see what a devoted and strong fan base the game has, even five years on. You can catch up on the anniversary in this blog.

And finally, in 2024 we brought ourselves to some new horizons, and revisited some old ones. We made our TikTok and Bluesky debut, so give us a follow there if you haven't already. And we came back to livestreaming on Twitch and YouTube with a series of chats with Alan Wake 2 developers, featuring never before seen in-development footage of the game. Catch up on the streams with this playlist.

Thank you to all our fans, partners, friends, and everyone in the Remedy community for supporting us this year! And bring on 2025!

From Espoo with love,
Remedy Entertainment
